Delma Harris c1953: “Nurse Glass who eame to the town in 1912 and opened a small private hospital on the corner of McDonald and Allardyce Streets.
The majority of Nurse Glass's patients were maternity cases and those suffering from minor injuries.
Dr. House attended the more serious cases of illness and injury coming to Gnowangerup in a horse draw buggy.
When Nurse Glass left in 1919, her departure gave rise to questions about hospital accommodation for the needs of the community. A house was aquired and adopted for the use of a cottage hospital which was administered by a commitee with a qualified sister in charge.”
Poppy Holmes wrote in 1969: "I can't remember very much about her except she was short & plump, & I believe used to run down the hill to see the babies"
Pearl Marshall writes "The first building to be used as a hospital was run by Nurse Glass in the building on the corner of Allardyce and McDonald Streets in 1914. She purchased this building from a Mr Schmidt."
Pearl later writes: Midwives were unable to practice any more, as at that time, the Government saw fit to bestow a five pound Maternity Bonus and all mothers then engaged a qualified and licensed nurse for their confinements....
The nurses and formerly the midwives, would take on the cooking and washing of the household for a moderate sum."
Merle Bignell: “It was a great disappointment to the community when it was learnt that their doctor, (Dr Pope) after only eighteen months, was to leave to resume Dr House's practice in Katanning. Nurse Glass continued working in the town until 1919, winning the admiration of everyone for the way in which she surmounted all medical crises on her own.”
Nurse Glass ran the hospital until December 1918.
A farewell evening was held for Nurse Glass on Friday the 3rd of January 1919. Nurse Glass departed for Bruce Rock.
